20th August 2021

As part of governments efforts to ramp up Vaccinations, it was announced on Thursday 19, August that Cabinet has approved the vaccination of 18year old + as of today Friday 20, August.

With a drive and push to ensure maximum opportunity for 18 years old and up the Houghton #VacciNation drive-thru site decided to open for vaccination as of 2pm until late.

The #VacciNation site situated at the Houghton Masjid on 45 West Street opened with much excitement and a special visit from Premier David Makhura, officials from the Department of Health, the leadership of Muslim Association of South Africa and the Houghton Masjid were all in attendance.

As part of the this important and much anticipated moment, the Houghton #VacciNation drive-thru site and Premier Makhura also honoured it’s oldest volunteer, Dr Seedat who turns 90 in a few days.

Premier Makhura thanked Dr Seedat for his excellent dedication to the site and for his service in his profession as a doctor to  our nation. The discussion between the two men coined the perfect catch phrase to ensure that the site, the volunteers and the nation work together to “Make It Work”.

“The youth of today… the Millennials and our Gen-Z citizens…  your turn to vaccinate is here,” said Yaseen Theba from MASA.

He went on to say “The vibrant youth of today displayed their enthusiasm to get vaccinated, get involved, spread the message and use your  access to social media to play your part. Your participation and messages must be amplified to resonate across every platform and forum. Please support us and the Nation to enable us all to Make it Work.”

Tomorrow the Houghton #VacciNation site will be open from 8am till 4pm with the aim to reach a record day of Vaccinations.

The team will count down to 20 000 vaccinations on site and outreach pop-up programmes at both Vodacom World and in the Sedibeng region.
