MASA embarks on the #WarmMzansi campaign once again for 2021
As we step back into winter, we experience warm and mild days yet the nights and early morning are becoming more brutal, most especially for the most vulnerable within our society.
Last year the Muslim Association of South Africa (MASA) embarked on its #WarmMzansi campaign, with the aim to deliver blankets and food essentials to poverty-stricken vulnerable communities and homeless individuals across the length and breadth of Johannesburg.
As a community who cares, MASA are helping to provide homeless people with relief as the winter months begin to settle in, with the aim to make a warm difference to the orphaned, disabled, sick and needy housed within care centres, shelters and those who are homeless.
Chairman Yaseen Theba said: “Joburg’s homeless have had a painful year of suffering and challenged beyond what we can imagine. The effects of COVID-19, the economic and social impact was beyond what we could have imagined and it is far from over.”
With the reality of a third wave, and the colder weather bears down & “shelters risk becoming hotbeds for infection”, assessments continue as we strategically plan relief for the poorest of the poor.”
“While many are under warm duvets, it’s a challenging period for the homeless, parts of our communities forgotten amid the Covid-19 pandemic, and so volunteers will be spending a great deal of their evenings handing out food, blankets & masks,” says Theba.
Theba has invited any company, school, organization or individual to help by taking hands in this huge effort.
“MASA would like to thank our loyal partners, donors and volunteers who have already committed themselves to be part of this important project.”
